SHORT-TERM SELF LONG-TERM SELF THE SUSTAINABLE MIDDLE

Where do you lean?

Most people don't live at one extreme all the time - choosing what feels good now, or what serves later. Notice which voice you listen to more often.

Short-Term Self and Long-Term Self patterns, compared side by side
Short-Term Self Long-Term Self
You choose what feels good or easier right now, even when it hurts your future goals. You sacrifice your current needs or well-being for future goals.
You choose extra sleep, another treat, or avoiding a hard conversation over what may help you long-term. You skip rest, overwork, or push yourself because the future feels more important than today.
You prioritize today's comfort over tomorrow's needs. You sacrifice enjoyable or restorative things because they don't seem productive or goal-focused.

What changes when you actually do the work

Working through this workbook means:

  • ✓Hearing which self is talking - the one choosing now, or the one choosing later - before you've already acted.
  • ✓Seeing that every adaptation made sense as a response to something real.
  • ✓Giving the present real weight, without losing sight of what you're building.
  • ✓Noticing when the future's voice starts to drown out what you need today.
  • ✓Treating the tension between them as the work, not a problem to eliminate.
  • ✓Feeling less guilt about rest, and less about the goals you've put off.
  • ✓Defining what letting both selves have a say looks like for you.
A calm, hopeful moment

Questions

Is this a replacement for therapy?

No. It's educational and reflective - a companion for work you might do in therapy, or a place to start before you're able to access it. It isn't a diagnostic or treatment tool.

Do I need to be in therapy to use this?

Not at all. Many people use it entirely on their own; others bring it into sessions with their own therapist.

How is this different from a journal?

A journal is a blank page. This gives you structure: short reflections paired with guided worksheets, built around a specific clinical framework, plus a reusable weekly tracker so the practice continues after the workbook itself is finished.

What format is it, and how do I use it?

A fillable 21-page PDF. Fill it out on your phone, tablet, or computer, or print it and work by hand - whichever you'll actually use.

Can I get all ten workbooks?

Yes. The complete 10-workbook set is available as a bundle, at less than the cost of buying six individually.
