Magnesium Deodorant Spray

If you're looking for a natural, non toxic deodorant recipe that actually works, you've come to the right place. This Magnesium Deodorant Spray recipe has only 4 ingredients that can easily be found at the grocery store, and it's easy to apply.
Keep in mind that with natural deodorants, you'll still sweat. Sweating is part of the body's natural process of getting rid of toxins. It's a good thing!
Preparation:
When switching over to a natural deodorant, your body will need to adjust. Doing a detox on your underarms will help draw out impurities and reduce odor to help with the transition. Our go to underarm detox is a bentonite clay mask.
How to make a Bentonite Clay Mask:
Mix a little bentonite clay with a small amount of apple cider vinegar or water until it forms a paste (don't use metal to mix it). Apply to both armpits and leave the mask on until it dries (about 10-15 minutes). Then rinse off.
It may be necessary to apply a few times in a week for the first week or two. Then every once in a while after that to keep the natural deodorant working well (once every few months or so).
Other benefits of Magnesium:
Magnesium chloride also helps with sleep, body aches, cramps, and muscle pain. It can also help calm the nervous system and lower stress hormones.
If you feel a mild tingle after applying (doesn't hurt), this is a sign that you might be deficient in magnesium.
Notes:
DO NOT spray it on after shaving. This is more of a stinging/burning sensation. It does subside, but I recommend shaving at night, and then applying in the morning. You should wait at least a couple hours after shaving to apply.
If your skin is too sensitive to the stinging, you can wash it off.
Scents:
You can experiment with different ratios of essential oils and find what scent you like best. Write down what you used each time you make it and adjust the next time if needed. Don't use essential oils that are phototoxic if the area will be exposed to the sun. Phototoxicity is when the chemicals in certain oils react with UV exposure. This can cause burns and blistering.
Phototoxic Essential Oils (UV sensitive; don't use):
-
- Bergamot (Cold-pressed)
- Bitter Orange (Cold-pressed)
- Grapefruit (Cold-pressed)
- Lemon (Cold-pressed)
- Lime (Cold-pressed)
- Key Lime (Cold-pressed)
- Lemon Verbena
- Mandarin Leaf
I use tea tree oil and geranium since they are antibacterial and antimicrobial.
For hers, I use tea tree, geranium, and either jasmine or rose.
For his, I use tea tree, geranium, and peppermint.
